TWINS – garden café furniture

Agnieszka Zalewska is above all a wise designer. And in my opinion, wisdom
is one of the most important features of any good designer. I have worked with
Agnieszka for three years, and over this period she has often surprised me with
her insight and mature mindset. In an era of ubiquitous superficiality and the constant
search for shortcuts, Agnieszka has always chosen subjects which do not guarantee
easy solutions. But thanks to the consistent and logical nature of her work,
her projects give accurate answers to the posed problems. The evidence for this are
the awards and recognitions earned by Agnieszka, among others in the Spa-Art
2009/2010 competition organised by the Poolspa company, for a design of a bath
with shower for the disabled – Easy Bath.

Agnieszka Zalewska’s degree piece is a perfect example of her unusually conscious
approach towards design. The designer has breathed a new spirit into the seemingly
dull subject of plastic outdoor cafe furniture. Patient observation and detailed analysis
of the issue resulted in unconventional ideas, regarding both function and appearance
of the pieces of furniture. Having the table top divided in half diagonally not only
facilitates daily assembly, but also gives the furniture a look which will long
be remembered. The chairs, included in the set, surprise in turn with the soft lines
of the seat and back, which contrast with the dynamic division of the table top.
But the greatest success of the designer is the fact that the solutions adopted by her
in the project led to the creation of beautiful and simple forms and a fine arrangement
for items found in urban space. Along with the perfect implementation of the furniture
prototypes (two table parts and a chair), Agnieszka Zalewska also designed
the development of the outdoor cafe in the urban space on Hoover Square next
to Krakowskie Przedmieście Street in Warsaw, and an outdoor restaurant
for Pod Karabelą in Wilanów park.
